The small village of Foppolo, with a population of just under 200 people, is located in the province of Bergamo in Lombardy in northern Italy. Located on the southern side of the Alps, the high valley in which the village is situated boasts excellent ski slopes and cross-country ski trails, as well as hiking trails and breathtaking views in every season. Whether it’s skiing, hiking or enjoying the local cuisine, there’s plenty to do here. The village is located in a high valley between the mountains Monte Valgussera, Monte Arette and Monte Torro. The village itself is situated at 1615 meters above sea level. The highest slopes end at an altitude of 2200 meters. In the surrounding area there are numerous ski slopes and trails, as well as the municipalities of San Simone and Carona, which also offer very good skiing facilities. All three villages share a ski pass, which offers vacationers in this region a tremendous selection of first-class shooting and cross-country skiing opportunities.

The climate in Foppolo

Due to its high position between mountains, Foppolo has a cool climate all year round. In summer the temperature rises up to 16 degrees during the day, while in the months between November and March there are reliable temperatures around freezing point. At night, temperatures below minus 10 degrees Celsius are not uncommon. Attractions in Foppolo

The biggest attraction of the village is, of course, the excellent ski area around Foppolo, San Simone and Carona. As the most prestigious ski resort in the province of Bergamo, here you will find everything for skiing, snowboarding, telemark and a three-kilometer-long lighted circuit for Nordic cross-country skiing. You will find 14 slopes in the Foppolo ski area alone, including 5 easy, 5 intermediate and 4 difficult routes. Snow walks with the traditional Italian snowshoes (ciaspole) are also popular. To make the trip between the three ski resorts comfortable, the ski pass also allows you to use the public transport between the three municipalities. In addition, the city of Bergamo, just under 60 kilometers away, invites you to a day trip. Between the cathedral, the museum Accadamia Carrara and numerous opportunities for shopping and feasting, you will find variety here or you can bridge a day with bad weather.
